Learn about German healthcare system

Learn about the German healthcare system. In this book, we answer expats’ questions about health insurance in Germany. You’ll learn about different health insurance options available in Germany, which is better, their coverage, costs, how to find doctors and access medical care in Germany.

The German health system is complicated and confusing for even native Germans. So, don’t worry if you find it hard to understand which health insurance is better: private or public.

We recommend the following.

  • Educate yourself by reading online guides on the German health system.
  • Consult a fee-based advisor or an insurance broker for personalized advice.

You can book a call with the insurance brokers we recommend for free.

What you should not do?

  • Don’t take health insurance advice from an insurance agent. Insurance agent work for an insurance company and are not liable for their advice.

What does liable for the insurance advice mean in Germany?

Insurance brokers and fee-based advisors go into a contract with you before giving a consultation. They create a consultation protocol and share it with you.

You can decide which insurance plan to take based on the broker’s consultation and recommendation.

Suppose the insurance plan the broker or advisor recommended doesn’t fulfill your wishes mentioned in the protocol. The insurance broker or advisor is liable to pay you the damages.

This is the huge difference between getting advice from a broker and an agent. Broker is liable but the agent is not.

Moreover, you should always get advice from an expert in Germany in writing. This is because only written proofs will hold if things go to court.
