Rossmann, the well-known German drugstore chain, has left the Verband der Familienunternehmer (Association of Family Entrepreneurs). The decision came after the association chose to start talks with the AfD (Alternative for Germany) party. Rossmann does not support any engagement with the AfD and made this clear in a public statement.
The company quickly ended its long-standing membership. This move highlights a growing split among German businesses about dealing with the AfD. Vorwerk, another family-owned company, has also withdrawn. Several other association members are now reconsidering their status.
Rossmann’s exit comes after a strong year. In 2024, the company recorded record sales of 15.3 billion euros. It expanded and invested heavily in stores across Europe. Rossmann also stands out for donating 1% of its profits and capital to social causes every year.
This is not the first time Rossmann has taken a clear political stance. In 2024, the company announced a boycott of Tesla. The reason was CEO Elon Musk’s open political support for Donald Trump.
Rossmann’s actions send a strong message. The company is willing to act on its values—even if it means breaking with long-standing partners.
